How to replace a power belt

The first step before you change a power belt is to determine if that is the cause of the problem. You can first see if the belt has snapped off or is so worn that it is on the verge of coming off. The next step is to identify the belt, for example, if you are looking on a car, would it be the power steering belt or the alternator belt. If you are working on a vacuum, let’s say it would be the main belt inside.

Then your next step is to go to the appropriate store if you are replacing the car belt it would be an auto store and a vacuum belt it would be a hardware store or a specialty store specializing in vacuums. Make sure you give the model numbers and serial numbers (or VIN numbers) when you go to the store. Have the year and make and model available so the clerk will known exactly which belt you will need for the repair.

The next step is to repair the belt. The first step is to remove the belt from the pulley. The pulley is the rounded piece that the belt sits on in order to rotate the belt when the engine is on. Remove the belt and gently slide the new belt over the pulley. You may have to make some adjustments to the belt once you have it on securely. Tightening the belt is essential. You don’t want the belt coming off in the middle of using the machinery.

Most belt replacements are similar to what we have described. Depending of course the size and shape of the machinery. But typically all of them are very similar. If you are having any problems, contact the supplier of the belt and see if they may be able to troubleshoot your problem.
